The men’s first hockey team prepares to play in the upcoming Varsity Hockey tournament after a disappointing finish in 2014
The Wits hockey men’s side got their official kit on Wednesday night, ahead of their Varsity Hockey tournament.
The new gear, in the colours blue and yellow was passed over with a few words of encouragement from the Wits Sport management. Adrian Carter who is the head of Wits Sports along with Wits Sports club manager, Michael Dick and Rugby coach, Hugo van As were all in attendance to show their support to the boys.
Carter praised the current hockey team for their form and urged them to give everything they have from the first game. “It is highly important to remember the 32 000 Wits students that you will be representing and I want you guys to give a 110% in each and every single game,”
The last time the Wits first men’s team played in the tournament was in 2014 and they ended 7th out of the eight teams that participated. The hockey officer, Erika Venter said that she hoped that this season will be different and she was confident that the boys will go on to win the tournament.
The men’s team will face North-West University Pukke in their first of eight games on Friday, May 6th at the UJ stadium.
