COOL WITH WORDS: A poet, rapper and businessman is this week’s cool kid on Campus.

“I tend to the wounds of people crucified by their circumstances. I carry hopes and band aids in my briefcase…” These are the words awareness poet James Fatana says describe what makes him tick.

The 23-year-old final year BA Psychology student, found his voice through poetry eight years ago. “I don’t conform to what people expect me to do. I just do me,” said Fatana.
He says poetry is a part of what defines who he is and that he sees himself as a doctor using words to heal.
Fatana, who is originally from Limpopo, is also a self-proclaimed businessman and rapper. He is a co-founder, with his friend, Thabang Mokoena, of Painapple, which is an entertainment company which manages artists, covers events and promotions.
“Our plan is to globalise within South African varsities,” says Fatana.
A quote by American comedian and actor, Milton Berle, resonates with Fatana: “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.”
