UPDATE: Wits academic Leigh Ann Naidoo to be released by Israelis

Wits academic and activist Leigh Ann Naidoo is due to return home after her day-long detainment on international waters.UPDATE: According to a report by Mail and Guardian, South African delegate on the Women’s Boat to Gaza, Leigh Ann Naidoo, will be released by Israel forces, and soon be on her way home.

Naidoo and 12 other female representatives from different countries were captured and detained while travelling aboard the Zaytouna-Oliva.

In a pre-recorded video message, Naidoo said the women boarding the boat had been “intercepted and kidnapped by the Israeli occupation forces,”

The Mail and Guardian reported that the counsellor political at the South African embassy in Tel Aviv, Musa Marawu, said that the embassy managed to secure her return to South Africa “after liasing with contacts in the Israeli ministry of foreign affairs”.

Naidoo is expected to arrive at O.R Tambo international airport on Friday, October 7.
