Another win for Bidvest Wits, making them top the log.
Bidvest Wits walked away with a big win on Tuesday, April 11, taking the top spot on the Absa Premiership log. The team won their match against Golden Arrows with a comprehensive 3 – 0 score at home in Johannesburg.
Wits played an aggressive game forcing Arrows into defensive mode for most of the game. Wits did not always dominate, starting their play very slowly but a penalty for a foul against Buhle Mkhwanazi seemed to breath new life into the side. Gabadinho Mhango had no trouble scoring off the penalty in the 21st minute. This was the only goal in the first half and giving the Clever Boys a pyschological advantage going into the latter part of the game.
Both teams went into the second half with filled with energy and positivity. Wits continued to apply pressure on Abafana Bes’thende, leaving them with no other option but to play an entirely defensive game. Despite the dominance shown by Wits in the second half, a clearly frustrated Gavin Hunt remained on his feet shouting down the missed opportunities.
The pressure finally paid off when Mogakolodi Ngele secured a goal in the 65th minute and another just five minutes later. h
The Clever Boys have been remained consistent this season, sticking to the top half of the log. Their next game is on April, 19 against Cape Town City in the Cape. The last time these teams clashed, Cape Town City bagged a 3 – 2 win.
