Wits rugby player set to represent the country.

Wits rugby player Dameon Venter has been selected for the national under-20 junior Boks squad which will be playing in the Junior Rugby World Cup in Argentina in June this year.

The second year Bachelor of Commerce student was selected for the South African Rugby Academy in November 2018 where he became eligible for selection for the World Cup.

Venter is currently playing for the Academy in an international test against Georgia, Namibia and Argentina, taking place in the United Kingdom. “I hope to form part of this group and then represent my country at the World Cup. I am so honoured by the opportunity to represent my country”, said Venter.

The Academy team of 40 will be cut down to 28 players who will represent South Africa in Argentina.

Wits Rugby Club manager, Ferdinand Kelly told Wits Vuvuzela that Venter was one of the people who easily made it into the Wits Rugby Club in 2018.

“He is a phenomenal rugby talent and even better human being. The humble Dameon Venter has a work rate that surpasses many,” he said.

Venter told Wits Vuvuzela that, “The camps [at the Academy] teach you the training principles and the way in which you should be training, also they train you on how the mindset of the Junior Boks should be.”

The South African Rugby Academy is set to announce its 28 man junior Boks squad on Tuesday, May 7.
