Bidvest Wits keep title hopes alive.

BIDVEST Wits clinched three points in an Absa Premiership league game as they handed Black Leopards a 3-1 loss on Wednesday, April 24, at the Bidvest Wits stadium in Braamfontein.

The first half of the match was marred by penalties and quick attacks, as the teams delighted the crowd with a thrilling performance. The first penalty of the night was awarded to Black Leopards who failed to take advantage of the opportunity.

Wits scored first through a penalty which was fiercely opposed by Leopards goalkeeper, King Ndlovu who questioned the referee’s decision.

The penalty was effortlessly taken by forward Simon Murray and was quickly followed by a goal six minutes later through a header from midfielder Deon Hotto.

Wits’ lead was short lived as a penalty for Black Leopards found the back of the net off the boot of Mwape Musonda.

With two additional minutes added to the game, Leopards’ defender Chris Katjiukua attempted to score but was blocked by Wits keeper, Ricardo Goss.

In the second half, it seemed as though Black Leopards had lost their momentum, as the pace of the players slowed significantly.

Wits capitalised on Leopards’ weaknesses as midfielder Elias Pelembe scored the Clever Boys’ third goal in the second half.

In the 93rd minute, Goss deprived Black Leopards of a second goal as he slapped the ball away from the goal post.

Man of the match, Wits’ midfielder Thabang Monare, told Wits Vuvuzela, “We were out here to get three points and the mission was accomplished, which is what matters to us as a team.”

The win puts the team at third on the PSL log.

Monare said Wits still has a chance of winning the league as, “it is just a matter of winning our remaining games, we never know what may happen in football”.
